COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will conduct a winter garden forage testing campaign until Oct. 6 in Hondo and Uvalde and a follow-up workshop in D’Hanis on Oct. 25.
The Winter Garden forage testing campaign will allow landowners to have their forage analyzed at a reduced price. Landowners can submit samples for $5 per sample at either of the AgriLife Extension offices in Medina County, 1506 Ave. M in Hondo, or Uvalde County, 122 Veterans Lane in Uvalde.
Workshop will discuss results, forage management
The workshop program will begin at 8 a.m. Oct. 25 at the D’Hanis Community Center, 191 County Road 526. Cost of the workshop is $15 and can be paid during registration.
Three continuing education units will be available to those attending the workshop. Landowners who participated in the forage testing will be able to receive their results during the workshop.
The program will cover the following topics:
- Weed management in forages – Josh McGinty, Ph.D., associate professor and AgriLife Extension specialist, Texas A&M Department of Soil and Crop Sciences, Corpus Christi.
- Sprayer calibration – Megan Clayton, Ph.D., professor and AgriLife Extension range specialist, Texas A&M Department of Rangeland, Wildlife and Fisheries Management, Uvalde.
- Insect management in forages – Noel Troxclair, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agent in Uvalde County, Uvalde.
