BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — Special thanks to the Farm Progress Show and Richland Community College for the opportunity to showcase the first ever Illinois Soybean Association (ISA) Agronomy Plot at the Farm Progress Show, Aug. 29-31 in Decatur. Guests of all ages are invited to join the ISA Agronomy Team as we explore and learn through games and activities. Enjoy some special gifts, compliments of ISA, and stay cool at our Ice Cream Social, which begins daily at 2 p.m.
Meet the ISA Agronomy team — Farm Progress Guests are welcome to visit interactive stations throughout the plot to learn about various soybean topics including:
- Serious About SCN – Yield loss from Soybean Cyst Nematode (SCN) is about 30 percent and it is one of the hardest issues to detect in a soybean field. Learn how to manage and protect the soybean crop and how the Illinois Soybean Association is funding research to enhance detection tools.
- Let’s Get Physical (Soil) – Understanding the physical properties of soil is crucial for mitigating risk on your operation. Learn about the physical characteristics of soil and how to adopt sustainable management practices to improve soil health.
- Scouting Soy (IPM) – Soybean scouting involves regularly monitoring soybean fields to identify and assess the presence of pests, diseases, nutrient deficiencies, and other potential issues. Learn more about implementing appropriate management strategies, and the research behind it, funded by the Illinois Soybean Association.
- In the Weeds – One of the primary challenges faced in soybean production is weed management. Learn about different approaches in Integrated Weed Management that can minimize the impact on the environment while effectively controlling weeds in soybean production.
- Growers will be able to walk the Cover Crop Plot to see different varieties of cover crops in action and learn how to implement cover crop management.
