COLUMBIA, Tenn. — EPA is seeking public comment on its proposed herbicide strategy until October 22, 2023. Individuals can submit comments to the federal register, but Farm Bureau encourages you to use this link where you can sign this letter urging EPA to withdraw its proposal. EPA has been under pressure to bring the pesticide program into compliance with theEndangered Species Act and is proposing restrictions on agricultural herbicide use intheir draft Herbicide Strategy.
Although this proposal would apply to most agricultural herbicide users, EPA has outlined four pesticide use limitation areas (PULA) where risks to certain endangered species are believed to be higher (see PULA map). Farm Bureau policy recognizes the intent of the Endangered Species Act but does not believe theprotection of these species necessitates such draconian restrictions on production agriculture.
