COLD SPRING, N.Y. — The Culinary Breeding Network, an initiative led by Lane Selman, Oregon State University agricultural researcher, in collaboration with the Glynwood Center for Regional Food and Farming, invites you to a one-of-a-kind event that will engage, educate, and tantalize your taste buds. The 2023 Variety Showcase will take place on Monday, October 16th, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Glynwood Center for Regional Food and Farming.
Why Attend?
“At this event, the curtain is pulled back,” says Lane Selman, Director of the Culinary Breeding Network. “Attendees will be introduced to the wizards making crucial decisions before our farmers plant their seeds. It’s a unique opportunity to network, build community, and meet the plant breeders responsible for crafting flavorful varieties for organic farmers.”
Experience culinary innovation like never before. The Variety Showcase brings together plant breeders, seed growers, farmers, chefs, bakers, distillers, retailers, distributors, and all those passionate about the local food system. Guests will embark on a culinary journey, sampling innovative and in-development vegetable, fruit, and grain cultivars. The event aims to spark dialogue, encourage the exchange of ideas, and bridge the gap between consumers and breeders.
Stay after the event for a Biodiversity-inspired Drag Show with Drag Queens Veela Peculiar and Blair Back with DJ Mercy!
June Russell, Glynwood Director of Regional Food Programs, shares, “Discovering and growing crop varieties that thrive in our local farms is key to our food sovereignty and resilience. We’re excited to welcome farmers, community members, and all those who are interested in being a part of this journey, celebrating tasty flavors and the richness of biodiversity.”
Our 2023 Variety Showcase will have a special emphasis on culinary grains including wheat, rye, oats, barley, and corn. Participants can anticipate an enriching experience of learning, tasting, and engaging with like-minded individuals who share a passion for food diversity and sustainability. Event Presenters include Slow Food USA, Hudson Valley Seed Co, The Land Institute, The Lenape Center, Chef Mark Anthony from Gramercy Tavern, Chef Cesare Casella and many more.
