ATHENS, Ga. — United States winter wheat production is forecast at 1.13 billion bushels, up 2 percent from 2022. As of May 1, the United States yield is forecast at 44.7 bushels per acre, down 2.3 bushels from last year. Hay Stocks Down 13 Percent
All hay stored on United States farms as of May 1, 2023, totaled 14.5 million tons, down 13 percent from the previous May. Disappearance from December 1, 2022 – May 1, 2023, totaled 57.4 million tons, down 8 percent from the same period a year earlier.
United States 2022 Cotton Ginnings Down 17 Percent
A total of 14.1 million running bales were ginned during the 2022 season, down 17 percent from last season. There were 479 active cotton gins, down from the 510 gins that operated in 2021. Fifty-five percent of the gins processed more than 20,000 running bales compared with 64 percent the previous season.
