LATHAM, N.Y. — Cornell Cooperative Extension’s Annual Capital Region Pesticide Recertification Day will be taking place at The Century House in Latham, New York on March 1, 2017. This event is designed to assist pesticide applicators in attaining DEC credits needed to keep their licenses up to date. The following DEC credits have been applied for: CORE credits, credits in categories 3a, 10, 24, 25, 1a, 10, 21, 22, 23, 7a & 8. Registration and check-in will begin at 7:30 am with classes beginning at 8:30 am. The fees are $100.00 per person to attend all day; Morning or Afternoon classes only will be $85.00 per person. Lunch is included in all fees.

Pre-registration for Pesticide Recertification Day is mandatory. Credits will not be awarded if a pesticide certification number is not provided in advance.
General Classes for CORE credit will include Arthropod Identification, The Importance of Environmental Protection and Regulation Updates. In the afternoon, participants have a choice of three breakout sessions: Ornamentals and Turf, Agriculture Plant and Structural and Rodent, where they may gain additional pesticide credits in these categories.
Speakers at the General Morning Session will include Dr. Jason Dombroskie of Cornell University Insect Diagnostic Lab, Mark Solan of the NYSDEC Bureau of Pest Management. In the afternoon, Dr. Elizabeth Lamb of the NYS Integrated Pest Management Program, Laurel Gailor of Cornell Cooperative Extension Saratoga County and Dr. Jenny Kao-Kniffin of Cornell University will speak during the Ornamentals and Turf breakout session. The afternoon Agriculture Plant session will feature talks by Dr. Stephen Duke of the University of Mississippi, Laura McDermott of the Eastern NY Commercial Horticulture Program and Aaron Gabriel of the Capital Area Agriculture & Horticulture team. Craig Thomas Pest Control Company will present on “green” products, IPM tactics, and bed bug updates in the Structural and Rodent session.
