HARVE DE GRACE, Md. — The National FFA Organization has awarded $10,000 in scholarships to six Maryland FFA members. The National FFA Organization and National FFA Foundation awarded more than $2 million in scholarships to 1,493 recipients this year.
The Maryland FFA members who received scholarship awards include:
- Brunswick FFA Chapter, Todd Allen of Jefferson, MD – $1,000 scholarship from the Hoard’s Dairyman (W. D. Hoard and Sons Company)
- North Garrett FFA Chapter, Alexis House of Grantsville, MD – $1,000 scholarship from the Ford Truck/Built Ford Tough Diehl’s Ford Sales of Grantsville, MD.
- North Harford FFA Chapter, Lynne Thomas of Fallston, MD – $1,500 award from the America’s Farmers Grow Ag Leaders Program and $1,000 – Ford Truck/Built Ford Tough Plaza Ford of Bel Air, MD.
- Oakdale FFA Chapter, Cahlen Cheatham of Myersville, MD – $2,500 scholarship from the CSX Transportation Corporation
- Tuscarora FFA Chapter, Zoe Baskerville of Adamstown, MD – $1,500 scholarship from the Farmers Mutual Hail Insurance Company of Iowa
- Westminster FFA Chapter, Avery Dull of Westminster – $1,500 scholarship from the America’s Farmers Grow Ag Leaders Program.
More than 6,200 students applied online for the scholarships. The selection process considers the whole student, including FFA involvement, work experience, supervised agricultural experience, community service, leadership skills and academics. The scholarships were available to student pursuing two-year or four-year degrees or vocational programs.
The Maryland FFA Association has 2,500 student members in 54 local chapters throughout the State. The National FFA Organization provides leadership, personal growth and career success training through agricultural education to more than 700,000 student members who belong to one of the more than 8,600 local FFA chapters throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The organization is also supported by more than 8 million alumni and advocates throughout the United States.
The Maryland Agricultural Education Foundation is a 501c3 non-governmental nonprofit established in 1989. Through the Maryland FFA, teacher workshops, scholarships, grants, Mobile Labs and Showcases, and revenues from the Ag Tag license plate sales, the Foundation pursues its mission to promote the understanding and appreciation of the importance of agriculture in everyone’s lives.
