NORTH BRUNSWICK, N.J. — On Saturday, April 29 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., Rutgers Day programming takes place on the Busch, College Avenue, and Cook/Douglass campuses, with something for everyone at each location!
For residents who love to grow their own food, consider a visit with Rutgers Cooperative Extension’s Master Gardeners Plant Sale on the Cook Campus, (located near the Marine Science building at intersection of Lipman Drive and College Farm Rd.). Here, attendees can consult with these Extension volunteers and staff regarding garden plans, plant care, past problems and access their vast knowledge of horticulture.
There will also be an enormous selection of plants for home gardens available, including herbs and heirloom vegetables, ethnic eggplants, hot peppers, common and unusual varieties of perennials & annuals, flowering vines.
This is a great opportunity for gardeners to acquire the following Rutgers developed varieties (available while supplies last) including the recently introduced Rutgers “Scarlet” and “D’Light” strawberries; “Rutgers” and “Rutgers 250” tomatoes, as well as the Rutgers developed heirloom “Oritani” bell pepper which you may not find anywhere else. Also available on Cook Campus will be the Rutgers specialty Dogwoods including “Scarlet Fire” and others.
RCE’s Environmental Stewards program will also be selling a selection of native perennials plants for the nourishment of local pollinators will also be available.
Don’t forget your plant wagon! This event will be held, rain or shine.
