PUTNAM CO., N.Y. — It was a great day at the Great New York State Fair when three 4-H youth from Brewster’s Tall Oaks Horse Club took home ribbons while showing off their equine knowledge.
The New York State 4-H Horse Program, in partnership with the Great New York State Fair, hosted various educational horse events called Hippology & Judging at the Fair. The event aimed to introduce horse enthusiasts to the anatomy of a horse and the equipment that is commonly used in the barn. It’s a hands-on competition, where 4-H youth visit different stations and test their horse knowledge on tack, equipment, horse breeds, color, and confirmations. There are many different stations the youth must attend.
The three 4-H club members were: Lacey Baila Pirzinger, Jillian Kennedy, and Aine Carey. The team showed off their skills by completing rounds of competition with scorecards from judges.
“It was wonderful to see so much enthusiasm in our 4-H members,” said Stefanie Hubert, Executive Director of Cornell Cooperative Extension Putnam County. “We’re looking forward to seeing them progress as they continue their equine education and learn more about horses. Cornell is super proud of these young ladies and all of the 4-H youth who represented at the 2023 Great New York State Fair.
