WEBB CITY, Mo. — A free on-farm workshop will be held from 6:00 to 7:30 pm, Thursday, October 12, at Bishop Gardens, 13234 State Highway AA, Cassville, Missouri 65625. Kelly McGowan, University of Missouri Extension horticulturist, and farmer Shon Bishop will lead a walking tour through the farm’s grafting facilities. Topics include information about:
- The grafting process
- Facilities needed for grafting
- The benefits of planting grafted tomatoes
The Thursday workshop is for both commercial and hobbyist growers, as well as consumers interested in learning how their food is grown. It is part of a research project determining the feasibility of establishing a local commercial grafting facility and the benefits of growing grafted tomatoes. It is a collaboration of Bishop Gardens, MU Extension, and the Nichols-Richardson Foundation with funding from a Missouri Department of Agriculture Specialty Crops Block grant.
