COLUMBIA, Mo. — Are you interested in the future of pork production, new technologies, or want to be a leader in the pork industry and are still in high school? Then the 2023 University of Missouri Youth Pork Institute is your answer.
The Pork Institute will be held June 12-14 on the MU campus. The registration fee of $100 covers materials, meals, dormitory lodging (air-conditioned, Christian Campus House) and planned field trips. As an attendee, you are responsible for your travel costs to and from Columbia.
Space is limited to 15 students—everyone is encouraged to apply. A selection committee of university faculty and leaders in the pork industry will screen the applicants. Applications are due May 5, 2023. Results of the selection process will be announced May 12.
Some of the planned activities include tours of the MU Swine Farm, MU Feed Mill, vet college diagnostics lab and dinner at the Missouri Pork Association headquarters. Prior to leaving, participants will take a written exam. The top two highest-scoring individuals will each earn a $1,000 college scholarship to the University of Missouri.
If you have any questions or would like to apply, do not hesitate to contact Dr. Marcia Shannon with the University of Missouri-Columbia at (573) 882-7859 or via email at [email protected], or the Missouri Pork Association at (573) 445-8375 or at [email protected].
