PUEBLO, Colo. — The Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce is excited to host the Chili and Salsa Showdown, Thursday, September 21 at the Pueblo Convention Center. This event will kick off the 29th annual Chile & Frijole Festival in Pueblo, Colorado on Historic Union Avenue.
The Chili and Salsa Showdown will feature 11 celebrity judges, ranging from Colorado based news broadcasters, to highly profiled chefs from the Rocky Mountain region. The judges will determine the best green chili, red chili and salsa in both a non-commercial and commercial round. The judging will be based on five separate categories including flavor, appeal, balance, ingredients & texture.
The commercial round will take place at 9:15am, with in-person registration and drop-offs taking place from 8:30 to 9:00am. The non-commercial round will begin at 1:15pm, with in-person registration and drop-off taking place from 12:30-1:00pm.
All entries must use Certified Pueblo Green or Red Chiles to be able to participate in the competition. Additional rules and registration for the Chili & Salsa Showdown can be found at https://pueblochilefestival.
An awards ceremony will take place Friday, September 22nd at the El Pueblo Museum stage at 6:00pm inside the festival grounds. Cash prizes & gifts will be awarded to the top performers in each category.
