PLYMOUTH, Mass. — Massachusetts Cranberries, representing more than 300 growers in Southeastern Massachusetts, Cape Cod and Nantucket, announces open registration for its 2023 Cranberry Harvest Bus Tour season. Established in 1888 as Cape Cod Cranberry Growers’ Association (CCCGA), the nonprofit endures as one of the country’s oldest farmers’ organizations, promoting Massachusetts’ official state fruit and bolstering the cranberry industry’s sustainability.
Cranberry Harvest Bus Tours, open to the public and popular with locals and tourists alike, are held on Saturdays and Sundays every weekend from September 30 through November 5 this season, departing at 10 am. Each (approximately) 90-minute tour explores New England’s distinctive fall harvest season and the sight, sounds and smells of autumn. Tours launch from Massachusetts Cranberries’ mini education barn in Carver, allowing visitors to delve into learning about historic farm equipment, educational displays and to purchase fresh cranberries and cranberry products on site. Attendees board chartered school buses and travel up close to an active wet cranberry harvest. Well informed tour guides discuss harvest techniques, farming tactics, and everything there is to know about native cranberries. Bus tours are popular and sell out early. Visitors are advised to book early in the season to enjoy this enjoyable experience with powerful red floating berries, Massachusetts’ official state fruit.
As the founder of cranberry cultivation, Massachusetts serves as the second largest cranberry growing region in the country, yielding approximately 23% of the annual national crop. Massachusetts is home to 30% of all North American cranberry acreage, and cranberries are the largest agricultural food crop produced in Massachusetts.
Massachusetts Cranberries also offers large group coach tours for tourism groups and school-age tour programs throughout the year, with low group rates and free parking for buses and vehicles on site.
Cranberry Harvest Bus Tour general admission tickets are $20, available at cranberries.org/cranberry-bog-bus-tours. Barn location and additional tour information is issued with ticket purchase confirmation. The education barn’s retail products and fresh berries are available for purchase by cash or major credit cards during tour hours.
