BROOME CO., N.Y. — Eleven youth from Broome County recently competed at the South Central District Dairy Bowl contest held at Oxford Middle School on Saturday, March 19th, 2022. The district event included 9 counties. 4-H Volunteer, Ann Supa, has been working hard preparing the youth for this knowledge-based competition. Youth learned about all aspects of dairy cows, from feeding, training, breeding, milking, and more.
Broome County’s Novice Team placed 4th overall, and the Senior combined team with Chemung county youth took 2nd. Members of the novice team (s) were Melody VanGorder, who placed 5th Individual, Rory Cornell, who placed 7th Individual, Hunter Harrington, took 10th place Individual, and Garrus VanGorder rounded out the team in 15th place. The senior combined team with Broome and Chemung place 2nd overall, with the one Broome County youth, Isabelle Kiehle placing 3rd individuals. Isabelle will advance to the State Competition at Cornell University on April 23rd.
Congratulations go out to all the youth who worked hard learning, studying, and practicing their dairy knowledge over the last few months. Best of luck to Isabelle advancing to the state level competition!
