The Risk Management Agency’s (RMA) Apple Crop Insurance Policy has become a mainstay of risk management for the Northeast apple industry. There are currently over 47,000 acres insured in the Northeast, providing $189 million in protection to producers.
Since 2012, weather-related events in the Northeast have resulted in widespread crop losses that have impacted the apple industry. These weather-related events have resulted in over $293 million of indemnity payments to apple producers. Ensuring the new Apple Crop Insurance Policy maintains a sound safety-net for the apple industry is paramount.
Crop Growers, LLP, is an independent agency that sells and services crop insurance for 35 different crops throughout a nine-state territory. Crop Growers is owned by Farm Credit East, in conjunction with other Northeast Farm Credit Associations. Producers do not need to be a Farm Credit customer to purchase crop insurance.
