PERRY, N.Y. — Join Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) for a “Meat” the Farmer event at Lento Restaurant, April 12th at 6:00 pm.
Come and enjoy a Meat & Beer pairing dinner, each with five courses of meat or other animal product (eggs, milk) and a beer to go with it! The cost to attend is $45/person. You will also have an opportunity to meet and talk to farmers who raise livestock and sell local meat products in Western New York. During the meal, CCE staff will provide an overview of MeatSuite.com, a free online directory of regional livestock farms selling bulk meat for public, and answer any questions you may have about buying meat products locally.
MeatSuite tool, which was started in 2012, is designed to increase freezer trade sales of local meats by connecting farms with consumers. Participating farms provide profiles with contact information, prices, descriptions of products, livestock raising practices, pictures and more. Consumers can then visit the site and search for farms and products that match their buying preferences. There are currently 30 farms in Western New York participating in this program.
The “Meat” the Farmer dinner at Lento, the 2nd event in western New York, focuses on connect local farmers with consumers. Plans are currently being made for a 3rd event to be held at the Hole in the Wall restaurant, Perry, NY on October 25, 2017.
The “Meat” the Farmer at Lento Restaurant is sponsored by Farm Credit Northeast AgEnhancement and CCE of Erie, Niagara, Allegany, Chautauqua, Genesee, and Wyoming Counties. MeatSuite is a CCE project that is funded in part by the New York Farm Viability Institute.
